And the new year has begun. Sitting on my couch in my parent's house watching a marathon of House re-runs I find is a great way to start the first Sunday of a new year.
Don't get me wrong, that kind of sentiment was hard for me to find.
Before this I was watching a documentary on the History channel on the Seven Sins. Divided into seven episodes, (Pride, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Envy, and Sloth) I caught the one about pride.
Pride was seen as the beginnings of all other sins. There can be two types of pride; the pride from the roots of western philosophy for example capitalism (who hasn't heard of this copout before?) in association with accomplishments, or successes. Then there is the vanity-glory pride, or also called hubris pride. This is considered to be the deadliest sin.
Interestingly there used to be 8 deadly sins. Pride counted as two sins. a double sin!
What was the point of this series? What was the point of emphasizing what I hope every participating citizen in a society knows in his core?
Along with this 7 days until the Apocalypse series. Ah the commodification of our greatest fear. It's not death. It's not suffering. Anything that questions our self preservation has now been discovered to be the greatest product. We will eat this up like butter.
